Tinted Sunglasses for Specific Results

Although the Matrix Sunglasses we sell do not feature multiple color tints, I think the concept is important enough to warrant a quick blog post about it.  In a nutshell, the lens color dictates which parts of the light spectrum will be filtered, and as such specific lens colors are designed for specific purposes.  Here’s a quick rundown.

Yellow colored lenses help filter out blue light, which can reflect off things to generate a special glare called “blue haze.”  By substantially reducing the amount of blue light that hits your eyes, things will appear brighter and crisper.  You often see hunters and skiers wearing yellow lenses.  However, these sunglasses are not recommended whenever you need to see accurate colors because yellow lenses tend to make colors look washed out.

Purple colored lenses provide excellent color and visual clarity against blue or green backdrops.  Thus, these types of sunglasses make an excellent option for hunters (green roughage), golfers (green grass) and water skiers (blue water).  Green colored lenses also help to minimize blue light and glare, and are said to generate the best visual clarity and color accuracy of any lens color.

Gray colored lenses are “catch-all” sunglasses because they do an excellent job of diminishing brightness, they protect against glare and UV rays, and they do not alter color perception.  Thus, they make a good choice for pretty much any activity.  Our Neo Sunglasses are an example of shades that have gray tinted lenses.

Brown colored lenses can also be considered catch all sunglasses that are appropriate for a wide range of activities.  These types of shades help filter out blue light, and offer protection from glare and UV rays, but like yellow lenses they tend to alter your color perception.

I hope you found this overview of colored lenses to be both helpful and informative.  If you have any other tips regarding colored lenses, please feel free to drop us a comment and let the world know what you think!
