Keanu Brings Elements of The Matrix into Directorial Debut

Man of Tai Chi

Keanu Reeves is getting ready to make his directorial debut.  While it’s unclear if he’ll be wearing his Neo sunglasses during filming, it’s been reported that he definitely plans to incorporate some stunt and action elements of The Matrix into the film. What follows is a brief overview of the Universal Studios project.

Keanu’s film is a martial arts epic called Man of Tai Chi.  The movie is set in Beijing and will be filmed in China.  It’s a story about a “young martial artist whose fighting skills brings him to a realm of vast opportunities, and painful choices.”  Keanu is teaming up with some folks who helped orchestrate the Kung Fu scenes in The Matrix trilogy, including Tiger Chen, who also has a starring role in the film.  Reeves himself will co-star.  You can bet that the entire movie will be jam packed with elaborate, carefully choreographed martial arts fighting scenes.

Like the Wachowski brothers before him, Keanu is looking to break new technical ground with the movie.  Of course, with regards to The Matrix I am referring to bullet time.  Keanu is looking to build on the bullet time technology by utilizing something called a “Bot and Dolly Iris,” which is said to be the most advanced robotic motion control camera on the planet.

The camera will blend both classic camera techniques with those of free-flowing cameras, and can be programmed to perform a set of very intricate movements in all 3 dimensions.  By using this technology, the action can be captured up close in a way that was only previously attainable in video games and CGI platforms.  Here is a “proof of concept” video that shows the robo-camera in action.

So, that concludes this brief synopsis of Keanu’s upcoming film.  I am definitely looking forward to this movie.  I have a feeling that it’s going to be quite revolutionary.  No word yet on when the movie will be released, but as soon as I hear the word I will let you know.  In the meantime, take the red pill, put on your Matrix sunglasses, and be The One, baby!
