Matrix Sunglasses and Metal Frames

Monday, April 12th, 2010

In previous blog posts, I have discussed the importance of quality lenses.  After all, the main function of sunglasses – Matrix Sunglasses or otherwise – is to shield your eyes from those nasty ultra-violet sunrays.  Thus, the quality of the lenses is the most critical measure of sunglass quality.

That said, frame quality is also somewhat important, albeit not quite as critical as lens quality.  When selecting eyewear, whether it’s Neo Sunglasses, Agent Smith Sunglasses, Trinity Sunglasses, or Seraph Sunglasses, it would be wise to consider the frames.

There are several materials from which frames are made, but the two primary frame materials are plastic and metal.  Each material impacts quality, comfort, and price, and as you can imagine there are tradeoffs in each.

Generally, plastic frames are usually at the lower end of the quality scale.  Although some plastic materials are sturdy and impact-resistant, others can become discolored or simply fall apart after some period of usage.  Plastic materials can also become warped and misshapen, especially in extremely hot and humid climates.  Thus, if you are considering sunglasses with plastic frames, make sure the plastic material is of high-quality (and, make sure you do not live anywhere near the Equator!).

Metal frames are usually better than plastic frames, because they tend to last longer and maintain their shape better over time.  This is why all of our Matrix Sunglasses come with standard metal frames (except of course the Morpheus Sunglasses, which do not have frames).  Common materials for metal frames include aluminum, nickel, stainless steel, and titanium.

Titanium and stainless steel in particular are thought to be two of the best frame materials you can find because they weigh very little yet are strong, and they do not corrode.  Both materials are also hypoallergenic, so they work well for folks who are allergic to other metallic materials, and both can accommodate prescription lenses very well.  Really, the main difference between these two metal frames is that the stainless steel ones tend to cost less.

So again, metal frames are usually the way to go, and our Agent Smith Sunglasses, Neo Sunglasses, Trinity Sunglasses, and Seraph Sunglasses all have metal frames.  In fact, all of our Matrix Sunglasses have metal frames (again, except for the Morpheus Sunglasses).  Plastic is sometimes ok, but you would be well-served to stick with metal, especially in extreme climates.

Why Quality Sunglass Lenses are Important

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

As you may or may not know, we here at MatrixEyewear.com take great pride in our Matrix sunglasses.  Whether it’s the Morpheus Sunglasses, the Neo Sunglasses, or the Agent Smith Sunglasses, we aim for top-notch quality.  And we stand behind this pledge with our industry-leading, 365-day warranty.

So what exactly does quality mean in the context of Matrix sunglasses?  Well, quality means many things to many people, but when it comes to your eyes, the quality of the lenses is definitely the most critical factor.

The best lenses have what is known as “UV400” protection.  This offers maximum protection from any type of ultraviolet radiation (UV) emanating from the sun (as well as some manmade lighting, but since we’re discussing sunglasses we will focus on the sun here…).

The sun actually generates 3 types of UV, two of which can be harmful – UVA and UVB.  I won’t go into the differences between the two here, as this information can easily be found via Google.  However, it is important to simply understand that there are 2 troublesome types of UV, so that you can make sure your sunglasses protect you against both.

Research has shown that higher levels of UV can cause damage to both living as well as non-living things.  Of course, this includes your eyes, which are especially sensitive, especially during peak daylight hours.  Excessive UV exposure has been proven to cause blindness in people as well as animals.  Do not take the sun’s ultraviolet radiation lightly…only buy quality sunglasses with UV400 protection!

This is why we here at Matrix Eyewear ONLY sell Matrix sunglasses with complete UV400 protection.   ALL of our sunglass lenses offer this – including Morpheus Sunglasses, Neo Sunglasses, Agent Smith Sunglasses, Trinity Sunglasses, Seraph Sunglasses, the Twins Sunglasses

So don’t be fooled by lower-priced competitors.  Only buy sunglasses with UV400 protection, like the ones you can buy here at Matrix Eyewear.  Your eyes will thank you for years to come!

Top 5 Features to Look for in Sunglasses

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

I love working here at Matrix Eyewear, I really do.  The Matrix movies are some of my all time favorites, and the sunglasses we sell here are truly the best I’ve seen.  Ok, yes I am biased but whose counting?

Anyway, whether you want Matrix sunglasses or some other style, here are 5 features that are absolute “must-haves”.

  1. Durable and protective lenses.  Your eyesight is important, so you must wear sunglasses that protect your eyes.  I would not settle for anything less than shatterproof and scratch-resistant polycarbonate lenses.  Ideally, your lenses will feature UVA and UVB protection, at UV400, which offers maximum protection for your eyes.
  2. Metal frames.  Plastic frames are not as durable or attractive as metal frames.  Plastic frames may be ok for throw-away sunglasses, but metal frames are critical to help ensure long-lasting durability.
  3. An excellent warranty or customer satisfaction guarantee.  If a brand or a company is offering a strong warranty or return policy, that is a good sign they sell a quality product.  (shameless plug alert: unlike our competitors’ standard 30- or 90-day warranties, we stand behind our Matrix sunglasses with a full 1-year warranty!)
  4. Quality manufacturing.  Too many Internet sunglass retailers (let’s say…99% of them) sell ultra-cheapo costume sunglasses.  Too often, the term “replica” equates to a level of quality that you might expect from something purchased out of a coin-operated toy vending machine.   If in doubt, ask questions, and refer to #3 above for a good indicator.
  5. Free bonuses.  Hey, who says you can’t get anything for free?  A good sunglass retailer will throw in some freebies, like free microfiber bags or carrying cases, free shipping, and even a free pair for exceeding a certain purchase amount.

Matrixeyewear.com has been selling Matrix sunglasses for 6 years, and we have sold over 5000 pairs of Matrix sunglasses during that time such as the Morpheus Sunglasses, Neo Sunglasses, Agent Smith Sunglasses, Trinity Sunglasses, Twins Sunglasses and even the Seraph Sunglasses.  The list above is a compilation of what we have learned over the years.   I hope you enjoyed it.
