1999 Red Carpet Video of the LA Premier of The Matrix

The Iconic Matrix

Wow, this is truly awesome!  Somebody posted a YouTube video that shows clips of the 1999 theatrical premier of The Matrix in Los Angeles.  The video is basically a chronicle of the “red carpet” event prior to the showing of the actual movie.  Whether you’re a fan of The Matrix or you just like Matrix Sunglasses, this video is a must-watch!

The video starts off showing some of the celebrities that attended the premier.  In addition to the actual stars of the movie like Keanu Reeves, Hugo Weaving and Carrie-Anne Moss, there were many other attendees including Chris Rock, Will Smith, George Clooney, Matthew Perry, Drew Barrymore, and more.

After the initial slide show (for lack of a better term), the video goes into a series of interviews with the actors as well as the other celebrity attendees.  These interviews really do a nice job of demonstrating how the movie was viewed right out of the gate.  The interviewees spoke about things like virtual reality and how it relates to the Internet, the spiritual choices that we are all forced to make sooner or later, the dichotomy between truth and ignorant bliss, and faith versus science, among other things.

The video wraps up with an interview with Keanu himself.  His explanation of the movie is that Neo, though his quest to understand The Matrix, goes through a journey of self-understanding and consciousness that is applicable to all of humanity.  He said the movie took 1.5 years to film (4 months of which was for Kung Fu training), and the result is “something that has never been seen before.”  Boy was he right about that one!

So again, if you’re a fan of The Matrix, I strongly suggest you watch this 13-minute video.  It’s insightful and it really takes you back to 1999 before anyone had ever seen a concept like The Matrix.  Better yet, before you watch put on your Neo sunglasses and/or your Agent Smith sunglasses and REALLY get into it!  Enjoy!
